How to Donate a Bench

The bench donation scheme enables people to donate a bench to be placed in South Park Gardens. Your donation could be to commemorate a loved one, as an anniversary gift, or to mark a significant event, like the birth of a child. Perhaps you just love the Gardens and would like to feel that you are contributing to it’s future.


Win a bench

The style of bench has been chosen to reflect the heritage of the Gardens and is of sturdy construction with oiled natural oak slats and bluey green wrought iron arms and legs.

Many people choose a location in the Gardens that was a favourite spot for their loved one, whatever your reason, by donating a bench you will making a significant contribution to the Gardens.

If you wish to donate a bench you will need to agree the location with the Council. Please ask for a map showing available sites or look on our website: www.southparkgardens.org

The current cost for each bench is; £800, plus £40 for a brass plaque with your chosen inscription excluding VAT.

The bench will be installed in your chosen location without charge.

Can I choose a different style of bench?
The Lost Art bench has been carefully chosen to be in keeping with the heritage of South Park Gardens. In order to ensure continuity of site furniture in the park we can only accept requests for donations in this style of bench.

If the bench is damaged or needs to be removed will I get my money back?
The life expectancy of the benches in a busy park environment is between 5 and 10 years.
We will care for your bench by carrying out repairs and protecting from vandalism by whatever means we can, but you should be aware that it can be distressing if your bench is vandalised particularly if it is the memory of someone close to you. Unfortunately we cannot refund money.

Is there any other way to get a bench; £840 is rather expensive?
Yes; there will be an annual lottery scheme and you can buy lottery tickets for £10. The winner will have a park bench installed in their name. See the website for details.

Can I have more than one bench in the Gardens?
Yes; individuals or families can have as many benches as they like, providing there are sites available.

How many benches will there be in the Gardens?
There will be between 24 & 36 benches, depending on the take-up of this scheme.
